ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2, according to state records cited by The Washington Times, as Republican lawmakers continued to question how long his registration remained active.
The Washington Times reported that Roberts had been on Maryland’s rolls for more than a decade and had been registered twice. The paper said registration forms showed he checked the citizenship box and signed under penalty of perjury. The reports do not show whether Roberts ever cast a ballot in Maryland.
Republican Delegate Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the case shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.” He said the delay in removing Roberts showed the system was broken and called for audits, federal cooperation and reforms.
Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis previously warned against “improper cancellation,” reflecting concern about wrongly removing eligible voters. Fox News reported that the case prompted renewed scrutiny from congressional Republicans, including Rep. Bryan Steil, who said the investigation would continue.
The Maryland State Board of Elections has not publicly laid out the specific administrative basis for Roberts’s removal.
