Soft Opening Marks Progress Following Months-Long Closure and Repairs Begins Phased Return to Full Operations

Hesperia, California (High Desert News Online) — Hesperia Lake Park has entered a soft opening phase following a more than three-month closure caused by severe winter storm damage, with early visitors noting clean conditions and visible improvements across the park.

The park officially reopened April 15, 2026, after being shuttered since December 2025, when a powerful winter storm caused widespread damage to public facilities across the Hesperia Recreation and Park District. The storm disrupted operations at several key locations, including Percy Bakker Community Center, Timberlane Park, and Live Oak Park, all of which serve as central hubs for community events, youth programs, and outdoor recreation.

For months, Hesperia Lake Park remained fenced off with no confirmed reopening date as crews worked to assess structural damage, repair infrastructure, and restore safe conditions. The extended closure raised concerns among residents who rely on the park for fishing, family outings, and outdoor activities, particularly during peak spring months.

Now in its soft opening phase, the park has resumed limited access, allowing visitors to enjoy open green spaces and scenic lake views. However, several amenities remain unavailable, including the lake store, fishing access, equestrian center, and the John Swisher Community Center. Fishing, one of the park’s most popular attractions, is expected to return in the near future as recovery efforts continue.

The playground, which was still under repair at the time of reopening, has since been fully restored and is now open to the public. Nearby Timberlane Park and Live Oak Park also reopened on April 15, with completed playground upgrades returning those locations to full operation.

Hesperia Lake Park has long been a cornerstone of outdoor recreation in the High Desert, drawing residents and visitors for its stocked fishing lake, picnic areas, and seasonal events. Originally developed to provide accessible outdoor space in a rapidly growing region, the park has played a key role in supporting family-friendly activities and community engagement for decades.

District officials emphasized that the temporary closure, while disruptive, was necessary to ensure public safety and preserve the long-term usability of these facilities. Early feedback from visitors suggests the restoration efforts have been effective, with many noting the lake’s improved appearance and the park’s overall cleanliness.

Hesperia Lake Park, located at 7500 Arrowhead Lake Road, is currently open for day use from dawn to dusk as recovery efforts continue toward full reopening.
