Free Pet Adoptions Offered at Del Amo Motorsports
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (High Desert News Online) — Victorville Animal Services will bring adoptable pets into the community Saturday, Aug. 8, for a Pup-Up Pet Adoption Event at Del Amo Motorsports of Victorville, giving High Desert residents an opportunity to meet dogs and other pets looking for permanent or foster homes.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Del Amo Motorsports, 14444 Atstar Drive in Victorville.
Animal Services staff will have pets available for adoption or fostering during the three-hour event. Adoption fees will be waived, and adopted animals will be spayed or neutered as part of the adoption process.
The pop-up event is part of Victorville’s continuing effort to increase pet adoptions and connect shelter animals with prospective owners outside of the city’s regular Animal Care and Adoption Center.
Victorville Expands Adoption Efforts
Victorville operates its Animal Care and Adoption Center at 16648 E Street in Old Town Victorville. The facility is the city’s first dedicated animal care and adoption center and provides sheltering, adoption, fostering, pet reunification, licensing, microchipping and other services.
The city has increasingly used community events to encourage adoption and responsible pet ownership. In June, Victorville hosted a low-cost vaccination and adoption event at the center where adoption fees were also waived. Animals available through that event had been spayed or neutered and received vaccinations and microchips.
Victorville has also invested in improvements to its animal services operations. During the 2024-25 fiscal year, approximately $952,000 in Measure P funding was invested in improvements at the Animal Care and Adoption Center, including roof work, dog shelter improvements, flooring, heating and air-conditioning upgrades, plumbing, electrical work and shade structures. Another $117,000 was used for network infrastructure improvements.
The city also expanded Animal Services staffing and increased outreach efforts involving adoptions, microchipping and vaccination programs.
New Pet Licensing System Now Available
The adoption event comes shortly after Victorville introduced a new pet licensing system designed to make registration easier for residents.
On July 1, the city launched a partnership with DocuPet, providing an online pet licensing and lost-pet-recovery platform available around the clock.
Pets licensed through the system receive a complimentary identification tag containing a unique identification code connected to the owner’s secure pet profile. The system also includes DocuPet’s HomeSafe 24/7 Lost Pet Recovery Service, renewal reminders and tools intended to help reunite missing animals with their families.
Victorville requires dogs within city limits to be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Residents who prefer in-person assistance with licensing can continue to receive help at City Hall or the Animal Care and Adoption Center.
The city’s broader Animal Services programs also include spay and neuter assistance, microchipping, foster opportunities and efforts to reunite lost pets with their owners. The Animal Care and Adoption Center does not euthanize animals because of time or space limitations, although humane euthanasia may be necessary for animals that are seriously ill or injured.
