Victorville, California (High Desert News Online) – Victorville is set for another wave of economic development as NewMark Merrill Companies, in partnership with World Premier Investments and R.Y. Properties, Inc., prepares to break ground on Desert Sky Plaza II—a 30-acre, 297,000-square-foot shopping center located off Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with doors scheduled to open to shoppers in the fall of 2027.

Victorville’s Expanding Retail Hub

Desert Sky Plaza II marks the next phase of the successful Desert Sky Plaza development, which currently features a Home Depot and other major retailers. The second phase will be anchored by Target and Burlington, two well-known brands expected to draw substantial regional traffic. According to projections from Placer.ai, the new center is anticipated to generate more than 6.5 million annual visits once open.

The project sits within the broader Desert Plazas master plan—an ambitious, roughly 100-acre commercial district that already includes WinCo Foods and other major tenants. When fully built out, the complex is expected to include over 800,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, reinforcing Victorville’s growing status as a key commercial hub for the High Desert.

Strong Economic Potential for Victorville

The new development represents a significant boost for the local economy. The Desert Sky Plaza area already attracts more than 31,000 daily trips along Roy Rogers Drive and over 90,000 near the nearby I-15 interchange. Its digital freeway sign captures more than 32 million annual impressions, underscoring the area’s visibility to travelers and shoppers alike.

Population growth in Victorville and the surrounding region continues to drive retail demand. With more than 130,000 potential consumers in the trade area—and over 22,500 new homes approved or under construction—the timing for this major development aligns well with the city’s upward trajectory. Desert Sky Plaza II will also create hundreds of construction and retail jobs, supporting both immediate employment and long-term economic stability.

A Continued Partnership with the High Desert

NewMark Merrill Companies has a proven history in retail development, managing over 110 shopping centers totaling more than 13 million square feet across California, Colorado, and Illinois. Founded in 1987, the company has invested in both property management and technology initiatives designed to strengthen retail performance and adapt to modern shopping trends.

Desert Sky Plaza II will build on that legacy, bringing needed retail options, dining, and services to a region that continues to grow rapidly. With its convenient location off the I-15 freeway and proximity to existing retail anchors, this new project signals continued confidence in Victorville’s long-term prosperity.
