Student performers and live orchestra power a vibrant musical celebration in Victorville

Victorville, California (High Desert News Online) – Victor Valley College is bringing big-city theater to the High Desert this month as its Theatre Arts Department presents In the Heights, a Tony Award-winning musical pulsing with energy, local talent, and live orchestral sound. The college is marking the return of the hit production with a limited-time Buy One, Get One ticket offer, celebrating the spirit of community that the show so passionately portrays.

Victor Valley College (VVC) Theatre Arts is lighting up the stage this month with a student production of In the Heights, a celebrated musical that brings the sights and sounds of New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood to life. The performance blends hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and soul—infused with the energy of a live orchestra from VVC’s own Music Department.

The campus has undergone a full transformation for the show, featuring an ambitious set of two towering, two-story city buildings that stand nearly 20 feet high. The design immerses audiences in the vibrant setting where the story unfolds—a hard-working community bound by friendship, family, and the pursuit of the American dream.

To thank the High Desert community for its ongoing support, Victor Valley College is offering a Buy One, Get One (BOGO) ticket promotion. Patrons can use the promo code RamsBOGO at checkout to receive one free ticket with the purchase of a general admission ticket. VVC students with a valid ASB card can attend free of charge.

In the Heights is far more than a musical; it’s a celebration of perseverance and neighborhood pride. Since its debut on Broadway in 2008, the show has earned widespread acclaim for its fresh approach to storytelling, winning four Tony Awards—including Best Musical and Best Original Score—along with numerous Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards.

The production marked a turning point in American theater by shining a spotlight on underrepresented communities and highlighting values that resonate universally: faith in hard work, pride in one’s roots, and the drive to build a better future. Its ongoing popularity reflects how these themes transcend geography and culture, continuing to touch audiences from Broadway to small-town stages like Victorville.
