NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies say Paul Pelosi, 86, could face misdemeanor hit-and-run charges after a July 3 collision with a parked car in Yountville that was referred to prosecutors for review.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded about 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street after reports of a hit-and-run. According to the office, Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when it struck a legally parked vehicle and left the scene.

Deputies later found Pelosi and, according to the sheriff’s office statement, he told them he had hit something but did not know what he struck. The office said a preliminary alcohol screening test showed a 0.00 blood alcohol level, and DUI was ruled out.

The sheriff’s office said it did not arrest Pelosi, describing that as common for misdemeanor offenses under California Penal Code section 853.6. The case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, and a California DMV re-evaluation referral was said to be forthcoming.

No injuries were reported in the crash, authorities said.

The new case comes four years after the Napa County District Attorney’s Office filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi in connection with a May 28, 2022 collision in Napa County. In that case, the district attorney said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content and that Pelosi was released pending an arraignment in Napa County Superior Court.
