Finishes Strong at Southern California Championships, Bulldog Brigade Earns Third Place Statewide
Hesperia, California (High Desert News Online) – The Oak Hills High School Marching Band ended its 2025 season on a winning note, taking home third place at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) Championships held November 22 at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach.
The “Bulldog Brigade,” competing in the 3A division, stood out among 30 other schools across Southern California. Their performance earned them a top 12 preliminary ranking and an invitation to the finals, where they ultimately placed third—marking the second consecutive year Oak Hills has ranked in the division’s top three.
Under the leadership of band director Raymond Moreno and student drum majors Suzzie Marquez and Yara Vargas, the Oak Hills musicians capped off a season of consistent success. Throughout the fall, the Bulldog Brigade collected first-place and sweepstakes honors at competitions in San Diego, Van Nuys, Long Beach, Riverside, Hacienda Heights, and Ontario.
This year’s show, “Color Vision,” blended bold visuals with television-inspired music, quickly becoming a crowd favorite. Principal Michael Capps praised the band’s dedication and performance, saying, “We continue to be incredibly proud of our Bulldog Brigade Marching Band program… With the excellent leadership of Raymond Moreno, the Bulldog Marching Band, Colorguard, Drumline, and Winds have far exceeded all expectations and made us all beyond proud. Good Bulldog Brigade!”
The strong finish reflects not only the students’ discipline and teamwork but also the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting local arts and education in the High Desert.
