Oak Hills senior Emma Berman Healy recently traveled to Alabama to audition for the nationally recognized University of Alabama Color Guard team. Following a highly competitive selection process, Healy earned one of only seven new roster spots and was the only student selected from California.

The University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band and color guard program are widely regarded among the premier collegiate marching programs in the country, regularly performing before crowds exceeding 100,000 fans during Southeastern Conference football games. Healy’s selection marks a major achievement not only for her personally, but also for Oak Hills High School’s growing reputation for producing talented students capable of competing on a national stage.

Meanwhile, Oak Hills continues to strengthen its athletic legacy as several Bulldogs prepare to continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Kaylin Steede will continue her academic and athletic career at Indiana Tech after building an impressive resume in both wrestling and softball at Oak Hills. Known throughout the Bulldog athletic department for competing in two demanding sports, Steede helped set a standard for dedication and versatility among student-athletes. Her ability to balance year-round competition while maintaining strong academic performance reflects the culture of discipline that has become synonymous with Oak Hills athletics.

Elizabeth Quiran has officially signed with Hastings College in Nebraska, where she will join the school’s women’s soccer program. During her time at Oak Hills, Quiran established herself as a reliable leader on the field and in the classroom. Her signing continues a growing trend of Oak Hills soccer players advancing to collegiate programs, reinforcing the school’s expanding footprint in regional and national recruiting circles.

On the football field, Joseph “Moose” Hernandez signed with St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana after helping lead Oak Hills through one of the most dominant eras in program history. Hernandez was part of a Bulldog football program that captured five consecutive Mojave River League championships, a streak that solidified Oak Hills as one of the High Desert’s premier football powers.

Over the past decade, Oak Hills High School has consistently emerged as one of the High Desert’s top athletic programs, producing league championships, CIF playoff appearances, and college-bound athletes across multiple sports. The school’s continued success reflects both the growth of athletic development programs in the Victor Valley and the increasing visibility of High Desert talent on the national level.

For many local families and community members, the accomplishments of these students represent more than individual success stories. They highlight the expanding opportunities available to High Desert youth as local programs continue building pathways to higher education and collegiate competition.
